This is the collection of all countries that are located in (<a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVj7LJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">EasternRegionFn</a> <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjqEpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">ContinentOfAsia</a>). East Asian country East Asian countries The People's Republic of China, i.e., mainland China and its government. Formerly an empire, China is a large <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjk55wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">IndependentCountry</a> in the east of the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjqEpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">ContinentOfAsia</a>; it is the most populous country in the world. Its government has occupied <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwRbQbpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Tibet</a> and claims <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVigv5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Taiwan_RepublicOfChina</a>, mountain areas in <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVj7XJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">India</a>, and numerous disputed islands in the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjWxJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">SouthChinaSea</a>. This constant includes the geographical and physical China for all time periods. China China-PeoplesRepublic Taiwan, a country which claims to be the government of all of China. <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVijQZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">China_PeoplesRepublic</a> also makes this claim. The government of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVigv5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Taiwan_RepublicOfChina</a> <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rv1aZ05wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">controls</a> Taiwan Province on the island of Formosa (cf. <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwJQd-pwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Formosa_Island</a>) off the southeast coast of China in the far western <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjgu5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">PacificOcean</a>, <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVkKRZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">QuemoyIsland</a> and <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViih5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">MatsuIsland</a> of Fujian Province a few kilometers off the coast, and Pratas Island in the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjWxJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">SouthChinaSea</a>. It claims several disputed islands in the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjWxJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">SouthChinaSea</a>. The territory controlled by <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVigv5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Taiwan_RepublicOfChina</a> is between the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVj6aJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">EastChinaSea</a> and the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjWxJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">SouthChinaSea</a>. De facto, <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVigv5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Taiwan_RepublicOfChina</a> and <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVijQZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">China_PeoplesRepublic</a> are two separate independent countries each with its own territory, while de jure there is a single <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjk55wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">IndependentCountry</a> of China, but two governments with separate regions of control. Mongolia Mongolia The nation of Mongolia as it has existed throughout time; includes both its physical and its political aspects. NorthKorea The country of NorthKorea, both physical and political. North Korea Japan Japan Japan, a medium-sized <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjk55wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">IndependentCountry</a> consisting of four islands off the east coast of the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjqEpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">ContinentOfAsia</a>, with several island possessions. As with all instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjk55wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">IndependentCountry</a>, this is Japan as a country qua political and historical entity (and also qua geographical entity in &quot;dualist&quot; microtheories). SouthKorea South Korea The country of SouthKorea, both physical and political. EastAsianCountry An instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rVvBTrJhkQdiCKs3GWTcWTg" class="cyc_term">CountryTypeByGeneralRegion</a>. This is the collection of all countries that are located in (<a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVj7LJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">EasternRegionFn</a> <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjqEpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">ContinentOfAsia</a>). The predicate <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwLSVCpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">prettyString</a> is used by the code which generates CycL to English paraphrases, but its applicability is not restricted to this use. prettyString NonAbducibleCollection The collection <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4roVp5xVzKEdiLrQAH6RYvVA" class="cyc_term">NonAbducibleCollection</a> is a sub-collection of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjl_ZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">SetOrCollection</a>. Abductive inferences sometimes involve hypothesizing the existence of entities as part of the explanation of some assertion or set of assertions. Cyc will not hypothesize the existence of instances of the collections that are instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4roVp5xVzKEdiLrQAH6RYvVA" class="cyc_term">NonAbducibleCollection</a>. Roughly, abductive inferences consume conceptual / theoretical knowledge rather than produce it. So, <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rHQdVmB_TEdaAAABQ2rksLw" class="cyc_term">SecondOrderCollection</a> is an instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4roVp5xVzKEdiLrQAH6RYvVA" class="cyc_term">NonAbducibleCollection</a> because Cyc should be employing existing theoretical knowledge about instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rHQdVmB_TEdaAAABQ2rksLw" class="cyc_term">SecondOrderCollection</a> rather than hypothesizing new instances. non abducible collection EastAsianCountry An instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rVvBTrJhkQdiCKs3GWTcWTg" class="cyc_term">CountryTypeByGeneralRegion</a>.
