An airborne object is immersed in the air and is not supported by the ground. If it is supported by anything, that thing is <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rI20iinS8EdaAAACgyZzFrg" class="cyc_term">Airborne</a> and it is not `inside' (contained in?) whatever is supporting it. Thus airplanes flying, soap bubbles floating, or people jumping in midair are classic positive exemplars of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rI20iinS8EdaAAACgyZzFrg" class="cyc_term">Airborne</a> things. Slightly more questionable positive exemplars include people suspended by parachutes, or the jet engines hanging off an <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rI20iinS8EdaAAACgyZzFrg" class="cyc_term">Airborne</a> 747, or the clothes of a sky diver. Negative exemplars include the people inside such an aircraft, chewing gum inside a skydiver's mouth because they are contained in something airborne. A person hanging from a bungee jumping chord is not airborne because the bungee chord is inevitably supported by `the ground'. However, while floating downward on a slack bungee tether, said jumper would be considered <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rI20iinS8EdaAAACgyZzFrg" class="cyc_term">Airborne</a> since he is not supported by anything, but rather in free fall. indoor location The collection of instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwS68M5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">SpatialThing_Localized</a> which are in an indoor environment. I.e. it is in a room of some sort with comfortable conditions to humans, e.g. it is room temperature, normal humidity, has breathable air at roughly sea level pressure, is protected from weather, can have lightness/darkness independent of night and day, and so forth. Indoors-IsolatedFromOutside in public InPublic The collection of instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwS68M5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">SpatialThing_Localized</a> that most english speakers relevant to the current microtheory would agree are &quot;in public&quot;. In most imaginable microtheories, there are a multitude of sufficient conditions for being in public (for example being outdoors in a city). And a multitude of conditions implying that you are not &quot;in public&quot; e.g. you are in your home. Please see the rules on the constant. afloat Afloat-OnWater The collection of instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwS68M5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">SpatialThing_Localized</a> that are floating on some body of water. at sea AtSea If an object or event is on a boat which is sailing on the open ocean, it is considered <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rZXg9WnS7EdaAAACgyZzFrg" class="cyc_term">AtSea</a>. If a boat is on the open ocean, it is at sea. If a sea battle is on the open ocean, it is at sea. Exemplar cases which may or may not be considered 'at sea' include boats on large lakes, people swimming in the ocean, submersed (see <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rGHwITHTAEdaAAACgyZzFrg" class="cyc_term">Underwater</a>) submarines in the open ocean and the objects inside of them. Perhaps these are exemplars of being 'at sea' to varying lower degrees of certainty compared with the positive exemplar cases. See also <font color="#ff0000">#$Afloat</font>. Underwater underwater The collection of instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwS68M5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">SpatialThing_Localized</a> which are completely submerged in some body of water. The collection of all specializations of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rHIBS0h_TEdaAAABQ2rksLw" class="cyc_term">FirstOrderCollection</a>, that is, of all collections of (first-order) collections, and an instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rHUFI8h_TEdaAAABQ2rksLw" class="cyc_term">ThirdOrderCollection</a>. Instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rHQdVmB_TEdaAAABQ2rksLw" class="cyc_term">SecondOrderCollection</a> are collections of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rHIBS0h_TEdaAAABQ2rksLw" class="cyc_term">FirstOrderCollection</a>s. Each instance <code><b>COL</b></code> of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rqEYnNVMqEdaSKAACs0x8nw" class="cyc_term">AtemporalNecessarilyEssentialCollectionType</a> (<i>ANECT</i>) is a collection satisfying three conditions: (1) <code><b>COL</b></code> is disjoint with (see <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViA45wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">disjointWith</a>) <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViAxJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">TemporalThing</a>, (2) every instance <code><b>INST</b></code> of <code><b>COL</b></code> is an instance of <code><b>COL</b></code> essentially (i.e. <code><b>INST</b></code> is an instance of <code><b>COL</b></code>, and could not exist without being an instance of <code><b>COL</b></code>), and (3) condition (2) is a necessary truth about <code><b>COL</b></code>. <p/> Positive examples of ANECTs include <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViAzJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Collection</a>, <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVieEpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Integer</a>, and <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViAzZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Relation</a> (each of which is a collection of atemporals and is such that, necessarily, all of its instances are in it essentially). Negative examples include <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjpUZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">SpatialThing</a> (though arguably it is necessary that all of its instances are essentially instances of it, it is not disjoint with <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViAxJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">TemporalThing</a>) and <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwP4FM5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">UniqueAnatomicalPartType</a> (which, though disjoint with <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViAxJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">TemporalThing</a>, has instances, such as <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjvDpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Heart</a>, that could exist even if they weren't instances of it; e.g. it might have been the case that every creature with a heart had at least two hearts). There are no known examples of Cyc-reified collections satisfying conditions (1) and (2) but not (3), but one can be contrived. Suppose that all of today's winning lottery numbers were primes. Now consider the collection: <p/> (<a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvrhK-JwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">CollectionUnionFn</a> (<a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjkdpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">TheSet</a> <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjrdZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">PrimeNumber</a> <i>TodaysWinningLotteryNumbers</i>)) <p/> This collection is clearly disjoint with <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViAxJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">TemporalThing</a> and, by hypothesis, all of its instances are in it essentially (as each prime number is essentially a prime number). But this last fact is not <i>necessarily</i> true of this collection: the collection might have had instances that belonged to it only contingently (i.e. not essentially), as it might have been the case that one of today's winning lottery numbers was non-prime, and no number is such that it is essentially one of today's winning lottery numbers. <p/> When asserting that something is an instance or specialization of a given instance of ANECT, it is appropriate to do so in the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4r3_SgQU2iEdaCwAACs0x8nw" class="cyc_term">UniversalVocabularyMt</a> (q.v.). Indeed, ANECT was specially defined to facilitate the movement of appropriate assertions to that microtheory. <p/> Cf. <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rGeylLJTfEdqAAAACs0uFOQ" class="cyc_term">PragmaticallyDecontextualizedCollection</a>. type of atemporal collection in which membership is necessarily essential proximity and location spatial topic ProximityAndLocation-Spatial-Topic A collection of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvtppU5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">CollectionType</a>s. Each instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvprlOZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">FacetingCollectionType</a> is a collection-type that &quot;facets&quot; -- i.e. stands in the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvjldVJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">facets_Generic</a> (q.v.) relation to -- another collection.
