These terms are not guaranteed to refer to the same concept across time but are guaranteed to be consistent within a particular OWL export. Use 'cycAnnot:externalID' for unambiguously referring to a concept across OWL exports or across Cyc inference engines. transportation-topic An instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rgQsP1F2xEdif1wACs2IMlQ" class="cyc_term">Topic</a>. Each instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rgQtd9F2xEdif1wACs2IMlQ" class="cyc_term">Transportation_Topic</a> is a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViA9JwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Thing</a> which (in some significant sense) has to do with the topic of transportation. Transportation-Topic generic path Path-Generic A collection of things that are paths or can be considered paths. Each <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwRCCC5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Generic</a> is either a a non-self-crossing path (see <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViOaZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Simple</a>) or a cycle (see <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rv6MSn5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Cyclic</a>). A <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwRCCC5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Generic</a> may be spatio-temporally abstract (e.g. links in Graph Theory; see <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rveIS75wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Multigraph</a>), spatially-located but intangible (e.g. a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwVGrQ5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">LatitudeLine</a> might be used as a path in some system; see <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwJXokJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Spatial</a> and its specializations), or fully concrete (such as a road, railroad, sea-lane, cowpath, pipe, blood vessel, fiber, or wire; see <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvuh8yZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Customary</a> and <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViOopwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">PathArtifact</a>). <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwRCCC5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Generic</a> includes anything that is used as a path in some <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rv9YtpJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">PathSystem</a> (q.v.). If a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwRCCC5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Generic</a> is a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvuh8yZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Customary</a>, then it might or might not have a specified <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rv9YtpJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">PathSystem</a> in which it is a path; if the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwRCCC5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Generic</a> is not a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvuh8yZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Customary</a>, then it can only be a path in some given <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rv9YtpJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">PathSystem</a>. For example, an orange is not a customary path, but it can be a path for ants in a specified ant path system. For any <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwRCCC5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Generic</a>, there can be a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvpsjd5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Traversal</a> (q.v.) of something moving along the entirety of that path (and a single <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvpsjd5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Traversal</a> can cross itself, double back along itself, or go back and forth along some part of a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwRCCC5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Generic</a> any number of times.) Note that <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwRCCC5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Generic</a> is _not_ a subcollection of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjaApwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Individual</a>, because there is nothing in principle to prevent a mathematical set or a collection from being "used as a path" in some path system. For similar reasons, few if any (non-empty) collections or sets can definitively be considered disjoint with <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwRCCC5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Generic</a>. A specialization of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViOcJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Movement_TranslationEvent</a>. In any instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvV74r5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Translation_MultiTrajectory</a>, motion may occur simultaneously along two or more instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjRepwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Trajectory</a> (which are not related by sub-trajectory relationships.) Therefore, there must be at least two <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVkEjpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">objectMoving</a>s in such an event. There may be more than one <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjiI5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">fromLocation</a> and/or more than one <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjXepwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">toLocation</a>. Instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvV74r5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Translation_MultiTrajectory</a> include scattering, distributing, and collecting things. For example, all of the following exhibit multi-trajectory translation movements: a rainshower or snowfall; an exploding firework; water being ejected from a sprinkling system; the surrounding objects being sucked up by a tornado; participants running a 100K footrace; pool balls during the opening break. Each instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViWFJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">NamedRoadway</a> is named part (stretch or segment) of roadways. (Not roadway the stuff.) Instances are named pieces of roadways (or highways or streets) which have names and lengths, and (usually) intersect with other roads. NamedRoadway named roadway A specialization of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjVQJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">TransportationDevice</a>. Each instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViuUJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">AirTransportationDevice</a> is a device used for transporting either people or cargo through the air. (It is thus not to be confused with a collection of devices used for transporting water.) Each specialization of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjw85wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">ModernNavalShip</a> represented in the Knowledge Base is a type of ship that has been used at some time since the beginning of the Nineteenth Century primarily for naval purposes, such as military attack and defense, reconnaisance, support, rescue, or coastal monitoring. Most instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjw85wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">ModernNavalShip</a> are specifically constructed for naval purposes. modern naval ship motionPathway-Partial path overlapping the path of motion An <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViAKZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">ActorSlot</a> and specialization of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rv2yvB5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">genericPathway_Partial</a> that relates a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViOcJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Movement_TranslationEvent</a> to a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwJXokJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Path_Spatial</a> such that at least part of the movement is along part of the path. It can be used to indicate one of the paths followed in a movement event. More formally, <code>(<a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rv_QFmJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">motionPathway_Partial</a> MOVE PATH)</code> means that <code>MOVE</code> has a trajectory (see <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rv_YPjpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">trajectory_Complete</a>) with a sub-trajectory in common with some <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvioitpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">subPaths</a> of <code>PATH</code>. For example, if a certain trip to Dallas from Austin is via highway I-35, this does not imply either that the whole journey is along I-35 (it also may be along driveways and side streets), or that it is along all of I-35 (which would take you from the Mexican border all the way to the Canadian border). A part of the journey is along a part of I-35. Contrast this predicate with <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViCe5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">motionPathway_Complete</a>, which relates a movement event to a spatial path followed throughout all of the movement. A specialization of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjT95wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">RoadVehicle</a>. Each instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViVwZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Automobile</a> is a four-wheeled road vehicle designed for carrying about two to eight passengers. Notable specializations of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViVwZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Automobile</a> include <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViHlZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">SportsCar</a>, <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVihFpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">PickupTruck</a> and <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVihV5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Van</a>. This collection does _not_ include motorcycles or tractor-trailers (since both motorcycles and tractor-trailers are not four-wheeled vehicles), nor does it include buses (since buses are designed to carry more passengers than instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViVwZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Automobile</a> are designed to carry). car Automobile tanker ship A specialization of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwQCRkZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">CargoShip</a>. Each instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwQCPwpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">TankerShip</a> is a ship that by design can transport large amounts of liquid or gas materials. TankerShip <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjXLZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Motorboat</a> is the specialization of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvpniTJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Watercraft_Surface</a> and <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwLzhaZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">TransportationDevice_Vehicle</a>. Each instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjXLZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Motorboat</a> is usually powered by motors (including in-board and out-board motors). Specializations of the role <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjB2JwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">transporter</a> should be used when possible: although automobiles are <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjB2JwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">transporter</a>s in many events, they should normally have the more specific role designation of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViog5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">vehicle</a> because they are also instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwLzhaZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">TransportationDevice_Vehicle</a>. When a car is being towed by a tow truck, the car is just a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjB2JwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">transporter</a> of any of its contents while the tow truck is the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViog5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">vehicle</a> of that event. An additional role designation for some <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjB2JwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">transporter</a>s -- those which are <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjHL5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">PhysicalDevice</a>s -- is <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvV0FMZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">deviceUsed</a>; e.g., the use of crutches in hobbling or ice skates in skating. The predicate <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjXepwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">toLocation</a> is used to indicate the ending point of a particular movement. <code>(<a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjXepwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">toLocation</a> MOVE LOC)</code> means that <code>LOC</code> is where the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVkEjpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">objectMoving</a> in <code>MOVE</code> (a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViOcJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Movement_TranslationEvent</a>) is found when the event <code>MOVE</code> ends; the final location of the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVkEjpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">objectMoving</a> in that event is <code>LOC</code>. The <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVkEjpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">objectMoving</a> may or may not be <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwPusM5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Stationary</a> at <code>LOC</code>. If <code>MOVE</code> is a single-pathway translation (see <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVsNyJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Translation_SingleTrajectory</a>), then every <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVkEjpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">objectMoving</a> in it is found at <code>LOC</code> when <code>MOVE</code> ends. If <code>MOVE</code> has multiple movers and multiple pathways (see <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvV74r5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Translation_MultiTrajectory</a>), then at least some of the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVkEjpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">objectMoving</a>(s) can be found at <code>LOC</code> at the end of <code>MOVE</code>. For example, some commuters to Manhattan leave and return each day to <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVi-r5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Connecticut_State</a>, which is their <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwQruLpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">origin_RoundTrip</a>. For example, Saint Louis, Missouri was <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwQtXRpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">onPath</a> U.S. Route 66, as was Missouri, any car driving along Route 66, and any lamp-post alongside it. onPath TransportationEvent transportation A specialization of both <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvc4nRZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Conveying_Generic</a> and <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvWH3qpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Translation_Complete</a> (qq.v.), instances of which are events in which one or more objects transport one or more other objects. Each instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rv-6HepwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">TransportationEvent</a> is an event in which an object (in the role of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjB2JwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">transporter</a>) aids in the translational movement of another object (having the role of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViulJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">transportees</a>), so that both objects move together along the same complete pathway (see <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvViCe5wpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">motionPathway_Complete</a>). Optionally, one of these objects, or some third object moving along with them, provides the force to make the movement happen (see <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjX_pwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">providerOfMotiveForce</a>). Examples of transportation events include automobile transportation, riding a bicycle, dogs pulling goods on a sled, a wagon with groceries rolling down a hill, a person carrying clothes in a suitcase, etc. In that last case, note that the <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjB2JwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">transporter</a> is the suitcase, not the person. Note that the transporter in a transportation event need not be in motion relative to its destination throughout the transportation event; an automobile transportation is a single transportation event even if it has sub-events in which the driver and all of the passengers disembark while the car is parked and refueled. A single transportation event may also have more than one transporter. For example, a sofa may be transported accross a living room floor by two people working together. Events which are not <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rv-6HepwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">TransportationEvent</a>s include a river conveying some flotsam, the wind blowing a leaf, a conveyor belt moving a widget to the next person on an assembly line, or a walking beast of burden that is carrying nothing. Such a <code>COL</code> corresponds to a property defined (at least partly) in terms of the contents, features, or implementation of the Cyc Knowledge Base itself, as opposed to a property that "exists out there" in the KB-independent world.
