Each instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvtAG-JwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Emission</a> is an event in which something `comes out' of a source, where the source in question causally contributes to that thing's `coming out' (e.g., the source is a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjX_pwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">providerOfMotiveForce</a>). The source of the emission is indicated with the predicate <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjc8ZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">emitter</a>. If the thing which `comes out' is an instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVj27ZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">PartiallyTangible</a>, then the event belongs to a more specific collection, <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjmyJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">EmittingAnObject</a>. If an emission is the first sub-event of an instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwQCA9ZwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">WavePropagation</a>, then the emission belongs to the more specialized collection, <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvr582pwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">EmittingAWave</a>. emitting mass communication Communication actions in which a great many agents are the targets of the communication. This is not necessarily limited to communications which use broadcast media such as television or radio -- it also includes mass communications accomplished by print media, by telephoning lots of people, by individually telling many people the same message, or by using a combination of media. Examples: an ad campaign, a ``get out the vote'' effort, or a smear campaign. This is a very diverse subcollection of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvcFjVpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">TransferOut</a>, including transfers out of organizations, systems of physical devices, teams or anything represented as a subcollection of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjmoJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Group</a> in the Cyc ontology. Note that if the group has a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjvUJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">groupMemberType</a> assertion for it, then anything transferred out of it must be of that type. Each instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvXDRVpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">IBTGeneration</a> is an event which creates some <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvkNufpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">InformationBearingThing</a>. The <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvkNufpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">InformationBearingThing</a> created may be either a transient wave phenomenon (e.g. sound, light, or radio waves), or it may be a relatively long-lasting instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVj2rJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">InformationBearingObject</a> (cf. the important specialization of IBTGeneration -- <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvWIQRJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">IBOCreation</a>). Humans frequently generate such IBTs as spoken language, gestures, and handwritten notes. It is irrelevant for instances of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvXDRVpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">IBTGeneration</a> whether there is another agent who accesses the resulting IBT. Note that every communication act starts with an instance of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvXDRVpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">IBTGeneration</a>.
