It was again reported during World War 2, when it affected thousands of German soldiers on the Russian Front, but it is now exceedingly rare.

PneumonicPlague A collection of (<a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rwP1IkpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">InfectionFn</a> <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvVjzFJwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">RespiratorySystem</a>) caused by <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvdNtxpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Plague_Bacterium</a>. It can occur naturally as either a primary infection or as a secondary infection to <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvnCbwpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">BubonicPlague</a>. It could also occur as the result of a <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvjqgXpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">BiologicalAttack</a> in which there is an intentional release of an aerosol of <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rvdNtxpwpEbGdrcN5Y29ycA" class="cyc_term">Plague_Bacterium</a>. <a href="http://sw.opencyc.org/2008/06/10/concept/Mx4rPH1cMV0lEdaN7ABgCEAsSQ" class="cyc_term">PneumonicPlague</a> would initially present with fever, cough, difficulty breathing, and sometimes watery or bloody sputum. It progresses similar to severe pneumonia. If not treated with antiobiotics it is usually fatal.
